May and June are still enjoyable but can be partly cloudy with afternoon showers. Santo Domingo and the south coast are sheltered from the prevailing trade winds by mountains and are best experienced between December and February as heavier rains can be expected from March onwards. Tropical storms and hurricanes may occur between June and November.
