A second helping of summer at Atlantis The Royal

By Sophie Wormald

September can feel a little unfair. The holidays are over, the evenings are drawing in and summer seems to have packed up before anyone was quite finished with it.

Dubai, however, doesn’t seem to have received the same memo. Warm, sunny days continue into Autumn, while the evenings begin to feel cooler. At Atlantis The Royal, that gives summer something of an encore. There are beach days still to be had, pools to spend an afternoon around, dinner outside and no particular reason for the swimming to stop at sunset.

Summer, round two. And Atlantis The Royal isn’t wasting a minute of it.

Make a splash of it

If you’re going to have a second summer, you may as well do it properly.

Atlantis The Royal has its own beachfront and pools to choose from, while a stay also includes daily access to Aquaventure World. That means the waterslides, beach and waterways don’t need to be squeezed into a single visit. Guests can go back during their stay, which takes a little pressure off anyone determined to try everything before lunch.

Families are an obvious fit, although Atlantis also recommends Aquaventure World for couples and groups of friends. So a child in tow certainly isn’t a requirement for getting involved in the waterslides. Who said the kids get to have all the fun?

One more summer evening

We’re not quite ready to give up eating outside for the year, and Atlantis The Royal has a few ways to postpone the inevitable.

Estiatorio Milos brings Greek and Mediterranean flavours to a terrace overlooking the Skyblaze Fountain, while Elements puts cocktails and small plates outside with the same rather impressive view. Time it right and Skyblaze adds fire, water and more than 1,400 lights to the evening, all choreographed to music by Hans Zimmer.

And on Fridays, Nobu by the Beach offers another way to use a warm evening. The world’s first Nobu pool and beach club hosts Night Swims from 8pm to 11pm, with music and cocktails alongside the swimming.

There’s really no rush to go inside.

A family-sized second helping

There comes a point on most family holidays when being together all day can take a short intermission.

Atlantis Explorers Club has five different areas for children aged 4 to 12, including an Art Studio, Action Arena, Gaming Zone and Ninja Warrior Course. Younger children have Little Explorers Village, while 13 to 17-year-olds get a Teens Lounge with PS5, Xbox, Nintendo and classic board games.

Which leaves the grown-ups with a few decisions of their own to make. AWAKEN Spa has massages, facials and a whole retreat to explore, with a Snow Fountain, steam room and charcoal sauna among the facilities. Or there’s a dining line-up featuring restaurants from names including Nobu Matsuhisa and Heston Blumenthal.

September is giving them another summer, after all.

There’s life in summer yet

September doesn’t have to close the book on summer. If Atlantis The Royal has given you an idea for an enquiry, that’s a conversation our Middle East specialists would be very happy to continue.

And if you’re looking for the next idea, there’s more to explore from our Lusso Stories.
