Blue Waters Resort & Spa, Antigua, and The Luxury of Loyalty

By Sophie Leeming

Antigua has a way of encouraging people to come back. The water is impossibly clear, the beaches broad and the weather typically reliable enough that many visitors rebook the next trip before they’ve even packed to leave.

On the island’s north-west coast, across a series of sheltered bays, Blue Waters Resort & Spa enjoys the swimmable sea and generous shorelines that define Antigua. The setting is beautiful, Antigua specialises in that, but scenery alone does not quite explain the affection many guests feel for the place.

Spend some time at the resort and the answer begins to reveal itself. What Blue Waters has developed over the years goes beyond a well-run luxury estate. They have built loyalty.

Guests return year after year, many already knowing their favourite spots; a particular stretch of sand, a table they favour at lunch, the weeks they always choose to stay. Staff greet them with easy recognition, conversations pick up where they left off and preferences are remembered without needing to be repeated.

The deeper luxury is the feeling of being known.

A Resort That Knows Itself

Blue Waters Resort & Spa has remained family-owned and family-managed for decades, and the team are clear about wanting to keep it that way.

Hotels that change hands frequently, often change character with them. But while much has evolved over the years, suites added, restaurants refreshed, villas introduced for families travelling together, it has done so without altering its personality.

When ownership is consistent, culture often follows. Many of the staff have worked here for years, and familiar faces appear across the estate, behind the bar, on reception and along the shoreline.

Even the resort’s General Manager has recently returned after time away, another sign of the way people have a habit of finding their way back here. Long-standing teams and stable ownership often create the sort of atmosphere guests return for, qualities we look for when selecting the properties we work with as part of our approach to responsible tourism.

For many guests, that steadiness becomes part of the pleasure of returning. In a region where hotels are regularly reinvented, Blue Waters has taken a different path. It has grown into itself.

“Kevin Phillips returned to Blue Waters after a two-year hiatus. He is wonderfully visible around the resort and has a natural way of making guests feel recognised and welcome.”

Tremaine at Veronica’s Bar

Veronica’s Bar sits just above the shoreline, open to the sea air and close enough to hear the water. It’s where guests gather before dinner and often return later in the evening, drawn as much by the atmosphere as by the view.

Behind the bar is Tremaine. She has worked at Blue Waters Resort & Spa for more than twenty years, long enough to have watched the seasons of the resort unfold year after year. Some guests arrive each winter within days of the same dates. Others reappear after a few years away, slipping easily back into familiar routines.

Tremaine notices these things. She remembers what people drink, how they take it, and often begins preparing an order before it has even been requested. But she also remembers the small habits that gather over time; where someone prefers to sit, when they usually appear, who joins them for a final drink after dinner.

There is care and pride in the way things are done here: drinks made properly, the same warm welcome whether someone is visiting for the first time or the fifteenth. Veronica’s works because it isn’t just a bar attached to a hotel. It’s run by people who treat it as their own. It feels personal. And that’s largely down to people like Tremaine.

“We are a family-owned, family-managed hotel and we want to keep it that way. To keep the identity and charm our guests' love.”

Expanding the Suite Collection

For many guests, a stay here becomes part of different chapters in life. Couples who first arrived on their own return years later with children in tow. Families who once booked separate rooms begin gathering under one roof instead, particularly when the stay stretches beyond a few nights.

The introduction of a two-bedroom Luxury Suite with its own private plunge pool feels like a natural extension of that story. It offers genuine space: bedrooms that allow for privacy, a terrace for long evenings, and a pool that is yours for an early swim before breakfast, all within easy reach of the beach and restaurants. You remain connected to the life of the resort, but with space to retreat when you choose.

Three additional Luxury Suites have also been introduced, offering greater flexibility for guests who appreciate extra room without moving into a standalone villa. And Rock Cottage, one of the most exclusive addresses on the estate, will undergo refurbishment this summer, maintaining the standards expected of a house in that position and with that view.

Resorts change. Lives do too. At Blue Waters the two seem to move together. Guests arrive with more luggage, or more family, and find there is space for that without anything feeling unfamiliar.

When to Go

January to April is the most popular time to visit, when Antigua sees bright days and warm evenings. Many guests return during these months, often to the same suite they have come to favour. Those preferred weeks are usually spoken for well in advance. The Cove Suites, in particular, rarely remain available for long.

The rest of the year offers more room to choose and it can be a good time to add an extra night, to try a different suite category, or to stay a little longer than first intended. The new multi-bedroom suites also introduce welcome flexibility for families travelling together.

If Blue Waters Resort & Spa sounds like somewhere you would enjoy, speak with your travel agent, who can arrange everything with us directly. We are always happy to advise agents on suites and which weeks regular guests favour most. Any current offers can also be found on our website, and further inspiration is available in our latest travel brochures.

“Shoulder and summer months are great times to visit Antigua with amazing rates, fantastic weather throughout the year and a little less busy!”
