We recently asked Fathmath Sheena, Marketing & Communications Manager at InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort, about colour, atmosphere and the personality of the island itself. We expected the resort to sound beautiful, but what an expressive, vivid picture she painted for us instead. These were some of the answers we loved most.

Is There One Drink That Really Captures The Spirit Of InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort?

“It has to be Maamunagau Originals,” Fathmath told us.

The InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort's signature cocktail changes daily depending on the freshest ingredients available and the mood of the island that particular day, which makes it feel much more personal than ordering the same drink each evening.

There’s something lovely about the idea of guests tasting a slightly different side of the island every day they’re there. Almost like the atmosphere, colour and feeling of that particular afternoon poured into a glass. “Every sip is a new discovery,” as Fathmath put it so perfectly.

What creative touches give InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort its character?

Fathmath spoke about creativity as though it lives all around the island rather than in one obvious place.

Villa Attendants carefully create intricate bed decorations before guests return to their rooms later in the evening while Curators design playful sand art that appears beside the shore for people to stumble across during walks around the island.

Then there’s Artist in Residence Anastasia Medvedeva whose marine-inspired resin artworks capture the movement and colours of the ocean itself waiting to be experienced.

People across the resort genuinely enjoy creating unexpected moments for guests.

What are the most noticeable details guests experience with their senses?

“The Sleep Well programme is designed to engage all five senses,” Fathmath explained, creating what they described as a “restful and immersive evening ritual” once the island settles into the evening.

Guests experience soft ambient lighting, refined linens, calming scents, curated sleep amenities and even a dedicated music channel, with each element designed to help promote a deeper and more restorative sleep.

If the team had to nominate the most colourful spot on the property, what would they choose?

“A favourite among both guests and team members is the swing set within the lagoon.”

Marked quietly with the signature #Maamunagau and surrounded by endless shades of blue, it captures a wonderfully playful side of the island while still sitting very comfortably within its surroundings.

It’s very easy to understand why people become attached to it during a stay.

What around the resort feels especially vibrant or eye-catching right now?

For the team, Lighthouse is one of the most visually striking spaces on the island.

Its sculptural design, flowing lines and shifting natural light mean the atmosphere changes constantly throughout the day. Then towards sunset, everything gradually turns warmer and more golden as the ocean colours outside begin changing too

Is there anything you’d particularly love people to understand about your resort this season?

“For this festive season, InterContinental Maldives will be elevated with a special New Year’s Eve headline performance by internationally acclaimed artist Pixie Lott,” Fathmath shared.
